Churches aim at developing a social atmosphere and peace that can help in sustaining good human life. Church is holy. The tax exempt status of a church has been challenged in the recent times. Many people think that churches are not contributing to anything social and hence, they should also pay property tax. But churches cannot be charged property tax. This is because churches are non profit organizations. Non profit organizations are exempted from paying any kind of tax. They are not required to pay tax since they target social well being as their main priority.
Churches are surrounded by the debate that they get many large donations which can easily help them sustain property taxes. Also, there is an opinion that most donations given to churches are used for internal matters rather than social welfare. But, churches always maintain their tax exempt status because it is not necessary for every church to get huge donations to sustain itself, and the small churches may not survive if government starts charging them property tax. Due to this reason, churches are not required to pay property tax even if their tax exempt status is under question nowadays.
