Students are the most susceptible of becoming victims of frauds. Also, sometimes students misuse the benefits given to them. Students can procure loans for their studies from various sources. There are grants provided by non profit organizations, student loans given by banks, and government provided aid. However, for grants and aids, students have to be exceptional and work very hard. If a student takes out a student loan and decides to use it for something else other than studies, then the consequences may be undesirable.
The student will be intercepted for tax refunds or wage garnishments. Also, the financial institution may sue the student, and there could be law suits. Also, the collection department will soon start calling, and there may also be collection fees to pay. The collectors are capable of harassing quite a bit. In addition, the student’s credit history will reflect the misuse of funds and that will amount to bad credit history. The student may never be able to procure a student loan again. All financial institutions will come to know of the initial misuse through the credit report. Sometimes, the student may be arrested and sent to prison for student loan fraud. This happens with government aid typically. It is not good to misuse government aid money even if you are spending it for a genuine cause.
Student loans are given mainly for the purpose of promoting education among deserving students. Misusing the student loan is absolutely not allowed lawfully.
